Inspection Purpose and Criteria

Risk-Based Inspections

Risk-based inspections will ensure compliance with licensing, registration, and accuracy standards regardless of a complaint. Risk-based inspections will be scheduled periodically when certain indicators suggest increased likelihood of fraud or non-compliance. The frequency of these inspections is based on region, workload, or facility history. Verification of documentation (e.g., DPR) and physical inspection of pumps may also occur. Reducing the incidence and persistence of risk criteria will help verify ongoing compliance for all registered devices.

The risk criteria include:

• Request for Information (RFI) Letters
  Businesses that received an RFI letter within the past year are prioritized for follow-up inspections.
• Reoccurrence of Skimming Devices
  Locations with a known history of skimmer activity will receive additional attention.
• Unregistered Devices
  If a business is found operating unregistered devices, a targeted inspection will be conducted to assist with compliance.
• Device Performance Review (DPR)
  Facilities operating without a current DPR will be subject to inspection to confirm equipment accuracy and documentation.
