Athletic Trainers Examination Information
Exam Eligibility
Applicants must submit an application before becoming eligible for the TX Athletic Trainer exam. Please follow the instructions for how to submit an application.
Upon approval of application, you will receive an eligibility email notice from PSI. The email includes instructions for registering and scheduling an examination. Please note that you may also receive an eligibility email notice from the department if you have been made exam eligible with pending licensure requirements.
Examination Requirements
Jurisprudence Exam
The jurisprudence examination is required for all new applicants seeking to obtain an athletic trainer license. The issuance date of the jurisprudence certificate must not be more than six months prior to the license application submittal date.
The jurisprudence examination is administered by eStrategy Solutions Inc. and must be completed within 30 days of paying the exam registration fee. You must complete the jurisprudence exam before being approved to take the written exam.

Written Exam
Eligibility is valid for a year from the date of approval. If you fail the written exam, you may schedule a retake with PSI within 24-48 hours of your failed exam.
Practical Exam
You must pass the written exam before taking the practical exam. Candidates are required to bring their own supplies, please see the Candidate Information Bulletin for more information.
